The 70-series LandCruiser truly is a relentless adventure machine, but every production car has limits. Not anymore, because Mater Cars for Cancer is giving you the chance to win an $89,495 LandCruiser 70-series with over $118,000 worth of unstoppable modifications. Enter for adventure here:
There are few cars on the Aussie market that are without peer, yet the 70-series LandCruiser is one of them. You may ask why, but you just have to look at it; it’s clearly several decades old, making any peers long dead. Yet although one article states that the 2024 LandCruiser 70-series is bereft of evolution, that’s hardly the case.
Despite those 1980s doors and retro snout, the current 70-series LandCruiser hosts a raft of modern features across the board, including Lane Departure Alert and a Pre-Collision System, Traction Control and because we’re all connected, a couple of USB charging points. None of this tech was available 40 years ago, yet it’s standard equipment on the GXL-spec 70-series.
Also standard is Toyota’s 4.5 litre 1VD-FTV turbocharged diesel V8, although not for long. Toyota has discontinued the engine, and the 2024 LandCruiser 70-series is its swansong, at least in our market. Sure, the incoming 2.8 litre four cylinder is a generation newer and makes similar power, but it’s when you start waving spanners over the old V8 that the magic really begins. So, that’s what Mater Cars for Cancer have done, starting with a Legendex 3.5” exhaust upgrade.
If you want one of these V8-powered LandCruisers, then you’ll need a time machine as new orders have ceased, and the Australian allocation is exhausted. Or, just maybe, you could win this one.
Mater Cars for Cancer had to look well ahead to secure a V8-powered 70-series LandCruiser as the books have been closed for nearly two years. Then, rather than sit on their collective laurels or flipping the truck for big money like some buyers are already doing, they shipped the ‘Cruiser off to Rambler Vehicles for a complete, turnkey overhaul.
That the list of modifications is seemingly endless should be no surprise given the full, $118,244 value of the upgrades, excluding the price of the 70-series itself which, in GXL-spec and ’79-series’ form (aka dual cab ute), is worth nearly $90k alone.
Most obvious is the Spinifex Manufacturing Midi Canopy, built from tough but lightweight alloy and colour coded to the ‘Cruiser’s classic Sandy Taupe duco, with a bunch of retro stripes for some added cool factor. There’s plenty of cool going on inside the 70-series too, with an Alpine stereo upgrade, full length centre console and bolstered sports seats with similarly retro leather trim upgrade. Is it time to upgrade your holidaying and put yourself on the path to retro adventure like the Alby Mangels and Leyland Brothers of old? Yeah, it is. Tickets here:
Up front the 70-series LandCruiser is ready to rumble with a full TJM fit out, including Outback bull bar, fog light kit, 12,000-pound Torq winch and a set of rock sliders either side. Not that you’ll be hitting many rocks, as the LandCruiser sits on a four-inch lift over standard, with a Superior Engineering coil conversion with ride-levelling airbag kit, and a one-inch spacer block. Also underneath is a set of 17x9.5” ROH Assault alloy wheels, with two spares mounted under the sail plane of the canopy. Below the dual spare wheels, there’s a Hayman Reese X-bar towbar, which is just the ticket for the $74,834 JAWA Infinity 15 Off Road Hybrid Caravan which accompanies the prize car. Speaking of ticket…
What I haven’t mentioned in all this in the fact that this lottery, draw 118, is Mater Cars for Cancer’s biggest lottery draw yet, with the modified 70-series LandCruiser, the JAWA caravan, and $120,000 worth of cashable gold bullion bringing the total, first prize pool to a significant $406,830. That’s more than enough equipment, accommodation and bullion to buy you a few months away to star of your own adventure. Why not blog about it? Everyone else does. But first, make sure you’ve bought a ticket or two before they sell out.
