Rod, the winner of Mater Cars for Cancer lottery No. 64, has had a connection with Mater since the early days.

Starting out as a civil engineer before moving to Brisbane from Sydney, Rod has had a close connection with Mater over the years—since 1982 in fact. After living in Queensland for ten years he was transferred to Sydney NSW. More recently, Rod lost his wife to cancer five years ago, and bought a hobby farm to retire—but he kept supporting Mater and its work with cancer.

Helping others has also been a big part of Rod’s life over the years—he is passionate about giving back. Recently through old friends he had a small part in supporting a car rally which raised over $200,000 supporting the Starlight Foundation.

Rod couldn’t be happier about his win and is still surprised to this day, as he has never won anything like this before. In fact it took us 5 days to convince him to take our call to let him know.
