Mater Foundation’s Director of Lotteries, Sally Wilkins, went through the list of prizes Bronwen had won, and after a few seconds of silence, the news began to sink. “Oh my gosh really? That’s quite a lot to take in!” she said.
And it was—not only had she won a spectacular million dollar home overlooking Pacific Harbour Golf Course on Bribie Island, Bronwen’s first prize also included a Porsche Cayenne Diesel, $250,000 Gold bullion, a Boston Whaler 150 Montauk Sport Boat, a golf buggy, a Pacific Harbour Golf Membership and a $2,000 holiday and accommodation voucher!
When Bronwen got off the phone, her workmates were automatically inquisitive. “My colleagues saw me take the call and apparently I went bright red. They couldn’t believe it when I told them. They all jumped online and looked at YouTube and Facebook to see the prizes.”
“I started really believing it when I received the confirmation email, and the scan of the ticket with my handwriting on it,” she said.
Her husband Stuart was also gobsmacked when he heard the news, “He didn’t get home from work until midnight that night, and spent until about 1am looking for the ticket. Once we found it things started to become real.”
Though Bronwen remembered purchasing her ticket, she had never thought twice about the prize. She purchased her tickets to support mothers and babies—being six months pregnant herself. “I agreed to buy a ticket as it was a good cause. I didn’t really take in the details of the prize—I just put the ticket away and forgot about it.”
Just over a week later, Bronwen and Stuart were at Bribie Island receiving the keys for their new home, car, boat and golf buggy.
“Wow, everything is so beautifully done,” Bronwen said as they were exploring their new home, “The ensuite is bigger than our kitchen—no fighting over the basin here!”
The prize couldn’t have come at a better time for the young couple who were expecting their first child—a little girl—just a month later.
“When we told everyone the news we had to start the conversation off with, We have some news—but it’s not about the baby, as everyone thought she had come early.”
The humble couple were incredibly thankful for their prize.
“It’s a life changing prize, it’s huge. Even a single part of it is amazing for us. If we had just won the $2000 holiday we would have been excited! When we drove our rental car up we were talking about how fancy it was—now we’ve won a Porsche!” Stuart said.
Though the Sydney couple are yet to decide what they will do with all of their prizes, they will be using the gold for their mortgage.
When asked what their favourite prize was they answered “The whole thing—it’s like it has just fallen from the sky!”
